Students are active literacy learners throughout the literacy block which is 2 hours each day. Whole class instruction is in the form of minilessons and small guided groups are based on a student's level reading and/or writing ability. Students have the opportunity to read and write on a daily basis. This gives them time for independent practice of the concepts and skills introduced during minilessons. There is a daily read-aloud to build comprehension through discussion.
